Money, money, money must be funny in the Ric's man's world..

Post by Elijah Ayreon »

There is currently 60056.63 florins within Elwynnese bank accounts. Some 55k is in private accounts, and 5k in company accounts. 10 (yes, ten -- one two three four five six seven eight nine ten) are in government accounts.

Do we want to do something with our economy? I am thinking we may want to have the govt or the academy have some money so it can pay for services and hand out gifts to worthy people.

If we want the govt to have money (the govt can then subsidise the academy), how shall money be given it? Do we want a system of taxation, people's donations to the treasury?

If we are to have taxation, what kind of taxation would be preferred? A one-off? A monthly, a yearly? What do we tax? People, companies?

We have that much? Where did the extra 30-odd thousand come from?

If the money is already in private accounts, taxing it only to give it back would not seem very productive, or popular.

As we have survived without an active economy so far, we might as well have a donation-based one for the rare occasions when money might actually be needed.

I believe the 30 extra thousand came from when Tosha and his companies registered themselves in Elwynn.

And how do you propose to acquire that? By finding a way of making Gralus a bit less moribund?

Pragmatically - we should keep SCUE for the buying in of services or for purchases from foreign governments. Internal 'economic' activity could be done on a basis of honour or merit for actual services and on highly dubious 'letters of credit' for the simulated aspects.

As the government has 'no' money (? incidentally, even though we are all dual citizens bar Iain I'd have thought we would have been entitled to something - in fact with Allot, Prometheus and Gregor I'm damned sure we are entitled to something) and events in Shireroth show that levying taxes can be 'fun' albeit impracticable perhaps we should rely on voluntary contributions for when we actually need to club together to make a purchase for the good of the nation?
