Kealb's first ever King's Cup final appearance was ruined by the narrowest margin as a second-half goal from Player of the Year Joe Foxon sealed an unprecedented treble for Cherry Trees. While talk of winning three trophies in the same season for the capital side was being downplayed ahead of the kick-off, many fans in red-and-white checks were buzzing off the potential of matching Cherry Trees' 2013 achievement of taking home both domestic cups, having defeated Xäiville Teflons in the Cities' Cup final earlier in the month.

Ultimately, the game was a typical final; both teams aware of the repercussions of going behind, and speculative attacks limited to lessen the chance of being punished for squandering possession. Kealb made the most of their time with the ball before the break, testing Kraig Johansen twice with tame efforts, as Cherry Trees' long-game approach left them with no registered shots on target in the first 45 to notably contrast their otherwise free-scoring season so far.

Cherry Trees started the stronger of the two sides after half time, with some early attacks breaking through the previously fortified Kealb walls. Kealb themselves remained solid all round, but still lacked that important cutting edge at the very top of their offence; also out of character to the rest of the club's season. The breakthrough came around halfway through the half, and from arguably the most likely source on the pitch. After a rare corner was won, Aprem Neil's delivery in was perfect for the head of League 1 top scorer Joe Foxon, who barely had to move his lofty frame to find the right contact to direct the ball into the top-right of the net. It was the Mercury striker's first goal in four weeks after a dry spell by his usual standards.

Aiming to not allow the floodgates to open, Kealb avoided an immediate desperation for an equaliser, and continued as they had before conceding. However, time was not on their side, and a final attack in injury time ended with Juan Pellegrino slumped on the turf after a ballooned effort as he arrived late at the far post. The final whistle came at the resulting goal-kick as Cherry Trees became the first Craitish team to secure the treble, adding the King's Cup to the League 1 and WMFA Champions' League trophies they lifted earlier this month.

An unprecedented end to a remarkable season for the dominant capital club, whose competition will have to up their game next year if they are to prise any of their trophies away in 2021.
