Kealb's two second-half goals were the difference in this year's Cities' Cup final as they halted the Aztecs' attempt at winning back-to-back titles with their first cup success in 13 years, and first trophy in a decade. In an evenly-matched and -contested fixture, both sides' defences came out on top for the majority of the game and, although Kealb sit two places and ten points ahead of the Aztecs in the League 1 table, it was the latter which had the best opportunities throughout the opening hour. Joint-third top scorer in the league Jan-Morteņ Juliaĵsen was the Aztecs' live-wire and clearest threat as Kealb's defence struggled to handle his height and strength - two towering headers were kept out by Zakr Darzi in the first half - as the Pellegrino brothers Alexis and Juan were Kealb's primary offensive creators, as they have been all season since joining in the summer. Sileman Bɏankarlënœ in the Aztecs' net was, however, rarely tested as Kealb's final ball was lacking. Early in the second half, Kealb had a penalty shout waved away after Seol Tae-Ki was felled, apparently too easily, in the box, which spurred the team on to push for a breakthrough. The Osĵätoņ defence held firm until the final twenty minutes, when Kealb's tireless effort paid dividends. Captain Ilt Valmer hit the opening goal from the edge of the area following a deflected squared ball from Juan Pellegrino which he was able to guide along the ground and into the bottom-right, while substitute Älekä Jacksen snatched a rare goal to double the lead with minutes to go. In a bid to soak the pressure up, Kealb had made some defence-minded changes, but a quick clearance from a Vän Vanisen delivery allowed Damien Vorgensen room to advance before finding Valmer up-field, who was able to lay Jacksen through to beat the offside and slot clinically home past Bɏankarlënœ in a way more reputable strikers often struggle. After time ran-out on any chance of a comeback, Valmer led his team to lift the cup; a trophy to signify the club's vast improvement this campaign already and the first Cities' Cup to make its way back to Kealb since the inaugural edition in 2005. Once the celebrations cease, Kealb's focus will switch to their final two league games as they aim to hold off the advances of Eĵars Town to secure third and a place in next season's WMFA Champions' League, while the Aztecs go straight into a face-off against BäJ next weekend, knowing a win will guarantee them a top-half finish for the sixth year in a row - with a WMFA Cup spot up for grabs for whoever finishes fifth as long as Sverige Tiem beat ZK in the King's Cup final at the end of the month.
