... I didn't actually think too hard about what the prize should be, but the obvious one is: You get to choose a new name for the off-topic forum!

As for your questions: The "when" was, according to the admin log, December 8th (so "apricotion" didn't quite manage to stand for a month). The "why" was that it had been "apprecation" since December 2014, and when I finally noticed the misspelling myself, I decided to see how long it would take for anyone to notice if I made it worse.

(e: also reminder to self, our registration question is currently about this forum, and... might actually need to change anyway since I would find it rather obnoxious if I was a new person trying to register. But it certainly will need to change if the forum's name changes into a less cabbagey direction.)
