Once the People's Republic of Mar Sara, settled by the fabled Starsearchers, Mar Sara was long one of Shireroth's farthest-flung colonies before now finding its way into the Bovic Empire.

Tarr's List: A Comprehensive and Complete Record of the Counts of Mar Sara, With Some Biographical Notes and Details concerning their Times
Edited by Kris Sileni

Foreword to the Thirty-First Edition
It is my solemn duty to present to you, reader, this list. First, I say that it is solemn, because this is the third edition of this famous and important reference work that I have had the pleasure to edit, but the first without my research partner and co-editor, Professor Charles Til'Bir, who I am sad to report is still missing after a deep probe into the Xultan ruin. Let this book stand monument to what should be a sacred mantra of field archaeology: only get as close as the possibility of escape and subsequent story-telling allows. Second, I say that this is a duty, because without the security of a new generation of students and citizens having a vital link to the history of our island, my role as the most recent link in a chain as old as time itself would lose its justification. Bisj ra ton'kar vity: we live in the shadow of death. Third, I say that what I offer, and what has been offered thirty times prior to this edition, is a list. Great Tarr could have written a history of Mar Sara, of its people, of its mountains and rivers. He could have collected selected biographies of the greatest Counts of our history. He could have written of the Kaisers. He chose to give us, in what was then an absolutely unparalleled work of scholarship, a simple list. It started life as a list; but unfortunately for human endeavour there is no such thing as a person with total self-control. He allowed the tiniest annotations into his first draft, and like a small drip in a roof that develops into damp, hampered by subsequent storms, the plan was fundamentally weakened. Today we can only marvel on the fact that a man with what was undoubtably the greatest mind of his generation, probably century, possibly millenium, could not help but mention the habit of Count Jish II to drink profuse amounts of tea, but only on Fishday.
