DISMISSED WORKERS PROTEST IN KLÄMEN

KLÄMEN — A number of protesters have been congregating in several squares and parks of Klämen, and last Sunday (last day of the Gereniade) they blocked roads in the Rekat neighbourhood.

The reason behind this phenomenon strange to Gerenia can be traced back to the news of the assasination of Karl Revat, Chief of the Department of Currency, about one month ago. The investigation resulted in a number of dismissals in the Ministry of Economy and in other government agencies—a sort of "purge", as called by the media. Rumour has it that the death of Revat is linked to the appointment of Marsel Levat as Minister of Economy last May 21st. In an interview granted to the TV programme Kerlat Mesern-Ovates, Levat denounced that he was threatened after his appointment. "There are some elements inside the government that oppose the new direction of the Ministry [of Economy]," Levat declared.

In spite of the "purge", only two suspects have been detained so far. It can be expected that Levat's revelations give a boost to the investigation.

Wonowtep Qaptoin, Chairperson of the SDPP, gave the following remarks: "At the recent Micran Summit, Gerenia just won the Bronze Badge of Progress. In light of the recent protests of dismisssed workers there, we wish to express our concern and will be monitoring the situation in Klämen to ensure that the workers are treated in a fair and humane manner and are given adequate resources in order to get on with their lives and create a state of equanimity and happiness."
