An Aimless Ramble

The People's Soviet Republic of Mishalan - A communist land of clockwork robots and cavalry. Fans of Red Alert and steampunk would love this place. And we have cute bears.

An Aimless Ramble

Post by Continuator »

Stage One: Ashkenatzimbergen to Point Blanc (12.VII.1651 to 24.VII.1651)
Overview: Point Blanc (Belniy Mys in Mishalanski) is a small city in southeastern Mishalan. It is named for Mount Blanc, a mountain that retains snow on its upper peaks throughout much of the year. The city was one of the more rural communities, with a large seasonal population. The prosperity of the town city formerly relied upon tourism generated by people coming to ski the slopes of Mount Blanc. That all ended with the Elwynnese occupation. The mountain was closed to the public and rededicated to the goddess Elwynn by the frantic copulations of the Hjartardýrlafðir who together brought the Yfirfroyalansgythia with skillful accomplishment to the state of divine ecstasy wherein she beheld the Matron Goddess and, in the name of His Riverine Majesty, bestowed the matrimonial dues which the White Orchid Lady was both owed and accustomed to. In return, Point Blanc was generously gifted to the Hjartardýrlafðir to be theirs to enjoy, always and forever, provided that they constructed a place of worship and reverence for the Sacred Queen of the Flower of the North.

Or so the slightly breathless bulletins posted on the Elwnet maintained.

Certainly a sizeable community of Vanic celebrants, protected by a contingent of the Vanic Temple Guard had established themselves in the dachas that nestled amongst the forested foothills beneath the southern slopes of Mount Blanc. Their presence, though an insult and an irritant to the local population, Amokolian and Mishalanski alike, was a serious obstacle to the progress eastwards of the XXI Legion.

The mountain dominated an eastward sloping valley, densely packed with birch and pine trees, which only gradually opened up sufficiently to afford space for the clustered town of Point Blanc and the adjacent airfield known as Medvedev AFB, formerly home to the Soviet Air Forces and the headquarters of the Imperial Forces' Fighter Command. This facility would be crucial for the maintenance and housing of the gravimetric vehicles of the legion and would have to be secured at any cost.

It was mid-afternoon, 13.VII.1651. A "Mock Turtle" gravimetric assault vehicle had levitated unsteadily skywards from the fortified cantonment of the XXI legion's forward operating base outside Ashkenatzimbergen two and a half hours earlier. At liftoff, Optio (Lieutenant) Tiberius Mattias had ushered the eight-man section of Kөk Lakh auxiliaries, dressed in the green fatigues and stahlhelms of the regular forces, though the infamous blast door into the steel beast and beckoned them to strap themselves down onto the uncomfortable narrow benches on which they would be enduring the flight to come. The auxiliaries had burbled to each other in their impenetrable Laqi dialect whilst chewing on strips of dried horse-meat and sharpened their knives with a keen intensity that left Tiberius slightly unsettled as he sat curled into his cramped seat facing directly towards the sealed engine compartment where intense reactions of exotic, and highly lethal, forms of matter and energy were all that kept the eighty-eighty tonne monster from plummeting back to earth with the finality and decisiveness of a cartoon anvil.
