Victory at Sherrinford Forest

Post by Orion »

With enemy forces slowly dwindling in supplies and numbers, thanks in part to inter-fighting between groups and a reliance on modern technology, which the infrastructure can no longer support, King Rivers led a counter-offensive out of the Willowood towards Sherrinford, defeating an enemy army and retaking the city. The two armies met in Sherrinford Forest, a dense woodland located a few kilometers from the city of Sherrinford. Enemy forces were ragged and weak, obviously on the verge of starvation. They also lacked significant supplies of ammunition, and vehicles were few and far between, indicating that oil/petrol reserves had run dangerously low. Unskilled in hand-to-hand combat, enemy forces were overwhelmed by King Rivers' army, which sported antiquated but nonetheless effective weapons, such as trebuchet and horse cavalry. The King had also been wise enough to enforce constant drilling of his troops in hand-to-hand combat, anticipating the enemy would fail to do likewise. His wise move won the day, and enemy forces were slaughtered, with the remnants scattering into the countryside.

The victory is a major turning point for the Kingdom, marking the first such counter-offensive since the fall of Brettania. While King Rivers has been able to maintain nearly complete control over Willowshire, the rest of Brettania has sadly been burned and destroyed by looters and rebels. It is unclear how deep the devastation runs, but it is expected that the country will be effectively starting over from the Middle Ages. After rallying at the ancient Willowood, the site of King Jeremy's coronation where the Kingdom of Willow was founded, King Rivers declared that Brettania no longer existed as a coherent nation, and that henceforth it would be known as the Kingdom of Willowshire. The King likened his reign to that of King Jeremy, and stated that he would be launching a new counter-offensive from the stronghold of Willowshire to retake the Brettish Isles from enemy forces. The victory at Sherrinford Forest marks the first campaign of the reconquest, and has served to garner widespread support for the King's crusade.
