The Imperial State of Constancia: Benevolent hereditary dictatorship, constitutional monarchy, laissez-faire technocracy, aristocratic corporate state, organized crime family syndicate or liberal autocracy? It depends on the day.

Day 1 [1636.6120 ASC]: Arrival. Uncomplicated, a spot of correspondence with the Palace was all that was required to get our crates waved through the customs barrier by the Borders Control Agency. Beyond the cities and the reclaimed stretches of desert along the banks of the Sandy River, this is still very much a cursed wasteland scarred by the Babkhan holocaust. Quick trip out into the provinces on the back of a battered old pick-up truck to see the lie of the land. I've seen the Door to Hell set in the glass desert of Tashbaan, southwest of Vey. The driver, a local hire, was jittery. There have been reports of Jingdaoese overflights. No reported strikes yet but it is just a matter of time. Thoughts about what the hell we have been dropped into must wait however. After the trip back from hell it was time to catch a short helicopter flight across to Petros. Jingdaoese corvettes are reported to be already active on the Sandy River and Lake Erik - an alarming development if true, that the Constancians have been caught napping and allowed the enemy to sail pass their garrisons at Portus Felix and Elaion.

Met with a small party of sappers from the Constancian Army. Gave some short instruction on adapting ammonium nitrate based fertiliser for explosives and how to convert barrels into buoyancy devices for improvised mines to be floated on the river. Should help restrict the Jingdaoese freedom of movement. In return the Constancian Army will assist the archaeological expedition with all the porters and guards we may require.

Rumours of a blockade in force on the river. Unsurprising. The Jingdaoese fleet will doubtless congregate at the estuary of the Sandy River. The Sandy River itself is almost as wide as the Blue Elwynn on Benacia, but is it as deep, even if it is, it seems absurd to imagine that capital ships will venture all they way into the heart of the desert. If they can navigate the river they will be able to range at will. Situation, potentially grim but not yet desperate.

Spending the night at the Pisinth Palati. Excellent hospitality laid on for us. Lamb kleftiko followed by generous toasting round the table with glass after glass of ouzo.

Visiting the MilZig site early tomorrow. Need more coffee. Damned hangovers.
